Sanwo-Olu Reaffirms Support for Tinubu Amid Rift Rumors

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, dismissing rumors of a rift between them.

He made the declaration shortly after accompanying the president to the airport as Tinubu returned to Abuja following his Sallah holiday in Lagos.

Speculations of tension between the two leaders grew after Tinubu appeared to snub Sanwo-Olu during the inauguration of Phase 1, Section 1 of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway. While exchanging pleasantries with dignitaries, Tinubu bypassed Sanwo-Olu and shook hands directly with Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo, who stood next in line. Sanwo-Olu’s absence at the recent flag-off of the reconstruction of the deep-seaport access road in Lagos further fueled the rumors.

However, on Sunday, Tinubu hosted Sanwo-Olu and members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC)—Lagos APC’s highest decision-making body at his Ikoyi residence. During the meeting, Tinubu reportedly told Sanwo-Olu, “It’s all over now. All is forgiven.”

After the meeting, Sanwo-Olu addressed the press, denying any fallout with the president. On Tuesday, he took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to reaffirm his loyalty, writing, “I remain dedicated to supporting his efforts and policies, which aim to bring real and lasting change to the lives of Nigerians.”
